Fjæstid: From FaceTime Conversations to Podcast Dreams
It all started with ordinary FaceTime calls between friends. For Elie, Amin, and Jean Luc – the hosts of the podcast Fjæstid – the conversations were so fun and genuine that they decided to record them. “Why not turn it into audio so others can listen too?”
They took the leap two years ago, but the first episode wasn’t released until a year and a half later. “The hardest part was pressing publish. Suddenly you’re sharing your life with strangers – and what if people hate it?” they explain. The fear of haters was real, but the response surprised them: listeners loved the format, and the industry welcomed them with open arms.
Finding the balance
In the beginning, they shared everything – intimate stories, relationship drama, and everyday life – but soon realized the importance of finding the right balance between being personal and being private. “You don’t have to put your entire life on the table. It’s about finding your voice while still being entertaining.”
Surprises and aha-moments
Along the way, several big and small moments have given the trio energy to keep going. Comedian Melvin Kakooza and rapper Kesi both agreed to guest on the show, and the hosts were even invited to perform at Copenhagen’s biggest street festival, Distortion.
But even with big names as guests, they quickly learned that success doesn’t happen overnight. Building a podcast takes hard work, structure, and persistence. “You learn as you go, and we’ve realized it’s about so much more than just sitting in front of a microphone.”
Dreams and future plans
When talking about the future, the ambitions are clear. Fjæstid wants to grow both as a podcast and as a YouTube universe, where they are already experimenting with content. Their dream guest list includes names like Mads Mikkelsen – and even members of the royal family.
And one goal stands out above the rest:
“For us, the ultimate dream is to be part of Podimo. But we know we first have to prove ourselves and find our audience. We need to be hands-on with every part of the format and soak up as much experience as possible. The dream of joining Podimo is the dream of going full-time with our show and building a team around us. Podimo has already been a great sparring partner, and we feel them cheering us on from the sidelines – that makes us even more motivated.”
Fjæstid’s own advice for aspiring podcasters
Elie, Amin, and Jean Luc are also eager to share their key advice for others who dream of starting a podcast:
Press publish – don’t wait too long, because you only learn by doing.
Don’t be afraid to share – but decide for yourself where the balance should be between personal and private.
Take feedback seriously – both from listeners and from others in the industry, who are often more supportive than you’d expect.
Build relationships – guests, sparring, and networking are an essential part of growing a podcast.
Practice patience (we’re still working on this ourselves) – success rarely comes overnight.
What do they listen to themselves?
It’s no secret that they are huge fans of Hav and Kamal. Elie even knows Kamal personally from childhood, as they grew up in the same neighborhood. Their format has been a big inspiration for Fjæstid.
Melvin Kakooza is another major inspiration: “We’ve been lucky enough to make an arrangement where we now record in one of his amazing studios. Melvin can do it all – film, TV, and of course podcasting. He’s great at giving feedback, and we’re really grateful for that.”
